Dieter Friedrich Petram Stiftung
Incorporated in 2024
Purpose of the Foundation
The goal of the Dieter Friedrich Petram Foundation is the idealistic and financial support of science, education, culture, amateur sports, child and youth welfare, and the preservation of local heritage in Bremerhaven and Bremen, as well as in the surrounding areas of Bremerhaven and Bremen.
In Bremerhaven, life-sized figures, made out of concrete, built by the artist duo Christel Lechner and Laura Lechner have been installed at nine locations across the city — a total of 26 “everyday people” sculptures, which bring wit, warmth and quiet presence to public space.
The Friends' Association for the Promotion of Science in Bremerhaven is honouring Dr. Sarah Simons and Dr. Arne Schröder of the Thünen Institute of Sea Fisheries with a prize of 15,000 euros. The grant will support an international symposium on ecologically and economically sustainable passive fishing.
The conference, which is expected to take place in Bremerhaven in December 2026, anticipates around 50–60 specialists and scientists from all over the world.

The cog replica "Ubena von Bremen" of the Hanse-Koggewerft e.V. association has been undergoing extensive restoration at the Rönner Group in the Fishing Port since the 2023 incident — supported in large part by volunteer members of the association. The ship is being fitted with a new keel and an almost entirely renewed planking up to the deck.
Total repair costs amount to approximately 1.4 million euros. In addition to the insurance settlement, more than 700,000 euros were raised from numerous donors, generous private contributors, the Dieckell Foundation and the Petram Foundation, and handed over to the association.
In time for the 200th anniversary of the city of Bremerhaven, the cog is to be made accessible to the public once again.
